Mind Your Step
2018, Performance with loop pedal, microphone, live feed cameras and video installation
The performance starts with the artist recording sound of her steps walking up and down the corridor into a looping station. Overlapping recordings of her steps in time create a rhythm that traps the body into an accelerated motion. Monitors that are connected to the live feed cameras create an echoing image of the real time motion while positioning the audience in surveillance of this single body.
The linear pendulum motion of this performance brings in mind the convulsion of the individual living in societies with malfunctioning ruling systems. Although there is constant motion, the exhausted body fails to accomplish any kind of progress and breaks down in agitation. This struggling body of the first part later reconfigures a new rhythm in order to break away from this path.
